This guide was checked against Core v9.26.5 on 6 September 2026. Open the official GitHub release page, select the package matching your operating system and CPU architecture, and read the release notes. Verify both the checksum and the signature using the published verification instructions and independently obtained signing-key fingerprints. A matching checksum alone does not prove who published a file.
Choose the Windows package from the official release assets. Verify it before opening the installer. Keep the wallet data directory and backups protected by your Windows account permissions.
Create and protect your wallet
Upgrading does not make an existing wallet backup unnecessary. Read the release notes before an upgrade and never delete chain or wallet data simply because an old tutorial says to reindex.
- Install and allow the node to synchronize. Keep RPC bound to localhost; never expose an unauthenticated wallet RPC to the internet.
- For DigiDollar, use a descriptor wallet with private keys enabled. A watch-only or legacy wallet is not a substitute.
- Encrypt the wallet with a strong unique passphrase and make the backup required by the wallet type. Protect the backup separately from the passphrase.
- Confirm you can restore the backup in an isolated test before relying on it. Allow enough disk space for your chosen node mode. Read release-specific pruning guidance.
- Use small test amounts first. Keep some DGB available for network fees separately from any locked collateral.
